Takenokuma

With the Takenokuma project located near the countryside, surrounded by mountains on all sides, Toru Shimokawa wanted to create a place with a relaxed atmosphere and a new experience that would bring harmony between locals and visitors in the same space, so he decided to create the space with an "outdoor architecture". For architects, the concept of "outdoor architecture" can be said to be the fundamental origin of all architecture.

House in Urayama

The 73 SQM residential building continues Toru Shimokawa's traditional Japanese architectural ideas and styles, exploring harmony with modern forms and reinterpreting its inner core with innovative ideas and constructs. In terms of architectural details, he takes functionality and durability into comprehensive consideration, pays attention to interior details, and is good at creating situational atmosphere and living comfort.

This is a restaurant renovation project in a hotel in Saga City, Japan. In the existing plan, the architects retained the original pine ceiling and the brick foundation that was left when the main building was demolished. Inspired by the hotel operator's emphasis on the preparation of seafood dishes, the potters invested a great deal of time and effort in making glazed tiles with a unique lapis lazuli glaze, making it one of the main skin materials of the space.
